Utah's Youth and Families with Promise 4-H Mentoring Program (YFP) is a mentoring program designed to help youth, ages 10-14, and their families. Young adult mentors establish caring relationships with the identified youth. This program helps mentors help their kids by providing motivation in developing their interpersonal skills, academic skills and by participating with them in structured recreation, community service, and community youth groups.

Mentors are a major part of their mentees life. They provide stability and a caring relationship for their mentees where they might not otherwise have a caring adult. They provide their kids with a something to be excited about and someone who is always looking out for their well being.

Youth involved in the program:

meet 4 times each month with their mentor, 1 meeting sponsored by the 4-H
attend weekly Afterschool clubs
attend monthly Family Night Out programs with their family

To become a mentor, you need to be at least 18 years of age and have a vehicle. Mentors submit an application after reading the Volunteer Application Packet, complete a background screening and attend training prior to being matched with a youth.

As a mentor, you will be asked to:

make a year commitment to mentor a youth (we do offer a mentor on the move program for mentors who would like to leave for the summer)
meet 4 times per month with the youth you mentor
